AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission’s (IACC) report for 2021.
Receiving the report at Al Husseiniya Palace from IACC Chairman Muhannad Hijazi, King Abdullah stressed the importance of protecting witnesses to encourage them to report suspected corruption, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty noted the need to continue working to advance the IACC’s performance and oversight tools, while keeping up with international indices and addressing any issues to enhance Jordan’s ranking.
Hijazi highlighted the IACC’s main achievements outlined in the report, including the retrieval of JD142 million from corruption cases.
According to the report, 197 investigations were referred to the IACC public prosecutor, and the success rate of investigations referred by the commission to the judiciary reached 83 per cent.
Hijazi said the commission launched the National Integrity Index, which measures the adherence of 100 public institutions to national integrity standards, highlighting the master’s and high diploma programmes in Governance and Combatting Corruption launched by the IACC in cooperation with the University of Jordan.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
