AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), affirmed on Tuesday that JAF’s and security agencies’ success in thwarting terrorist plans reflects their professionalism and effective coordination.

During a visit to the General Department of the Gendarmerie and the Public Security Department (PSD), King Abdullah, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, said there are no concerns over Jordan’s security at present or in the future, noting that society rejects dark ideologies and its promoters from the khawarij (the outlaws of Islam).

His Majesty voiced pride in the nashama (brave men) of the JAF and security agencies, describing them as brothers in arms. Jordan grows stronger with the awareness and unity of Jordanians, and with the strong resolve of the military and security apparatuses, the King affirmed.

During the visit to the General Department of the Gendarmerie, His Majesty met with its director, Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh, who gave a briefing on issues and developments pertaining to Gendarmerie forces.

The King also checked on the preparedness of Gendarmerie personnel and the measures taken by the department to uphold the rule of law and maintain security.

His Majesty said all Jordanians are proud of security agencies’ efforts in the recent operation in Salt to safeguard the country’s security and stability.

The King commended the sacrifices of the JAF and security agencies, adding that the nashama are always ready to give their lives to protect Jordanians from the enemies of humanity.

His Majesty also expressed condolences over the martyrdom of a number of security personnel, who were killed in the line of duty while defending the homeland.

Maj. Gen. Hawatmeh said Gendarmerie forces are honoured to uphold their duty to protect Jordan and its people.

At the PSD, the King was briefed by PSD Director Maj. Gen. Fadel Hmoud on progress in implementing the department’s strategic security plans (2018-2020), and the latest upgrades to police and traffic services.

His Majesty voiced pride in PSD personnel and their role in professionally safeguarding Jordan’s security and stability, and upholding the rule of law in the service and protection of citizens and residents.

The King, accompanied by the Crown Prince, toured the Preventive Security Department and was acquainted with the advanced equipment used to enhance police performance, law enforcement, and crime detection and prevention.

Maj. Gen. Hmoud affirmed that the PSD, in line with His Majesty’s directives, would continue to enhance its security services while maintaining high-level cooperation and coordination with the JAF and other security agencies to preserve Jordan’s security and stability.

On the sidelines of the visit, the King honoured a number of distinguished athletes from the Jordan Police Sports Union, who have recently won regional and international championships.
