AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Sunday extended his condolences to the family of Corporal Ahmed Zu’bi who succumbed to his wounds on Monday.

Zu’bi was injured in the terrorist act that targeted a joint Gendarmerie-police patrol stationed near the Fuheis Festival on August 10.

During his visit to the house of condolences of Zu’bi in Ramtha’s Thneibeh town, His Majesty offered his commiseration to the family of the fallen officer, according to a Royal Court statement.

Royal Court Chief Youssef Issawi, Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas and Gendarmerie Department Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh accompanied King Abdullah to pay respects to the Zu’bis.

Meanwhile, Hawatmeh decided to promote Zu’bi to the rank of corporal, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

A primitive explosive device was the cause of an explosion that ripped through a Gendarmerie vehicle of the patrol, leaving one officer dead and six others injured.

The incident was followed a day later by a raid in the city of Salt on the hideout of suspected terrorists implicated in the terrorist bombing. It resulted in the death of three suspected terrorists, four security officers and the arrest of five men.
