King Hussein Cancer Centre served 27,000 cancer patients in 2022

AMMAN — The King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC) provided healthcare services for 27,000 cancer patients in 2022, and received some 6,800 new patients of Jordanian and non-Jordanian nationalities. 

A total of 789 underprivileged patients accessed cancer care, thanks to Goodwill and Zakat Funds coverage of treatment costs, according to a   KHCC statement cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

HRH Princess Ghida Talal, chairperson of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and the Centre, expressed her appreciation for the stakeholders and donors’ efforts in support of the cancer patients.

According to the statement, the centre has also conducted 250 bone marrow transplants with a success rate of above 85 per cent.

The year 2022 also saw 33 robot-assisted surgeries, the opening of the KHCC park, and the fulfilment of the wishes of 220 children through the “Dreams Come True” programme.

The Jordan Breast Cancer Programme continued its efforts to raise awareness and encourage early detection, boasting of the 28,000 women who received mammograms in 2022. 

Additionally, 30,000 new subscribers joined KHCF’s Cancer Care Insurance (CCI) programme, bringing the number of subscribers to more than 200,000 individuals and companies. 

The foundation launched the second edition of the King Hussein Award for Cancer Research, which featured the participation of 137 scholars from 16 countries. Seven awardees were honoured by HRH Prince Talal bin Mohammed during a special ceremony, which was attended by 350 researchers and innovators from all over the world.

In 2011, a Royal Decree was issued appointing HRH Princess Ghida Talal as the chairperson of the KHCF and the KHCC.
