King, German chancellor discuss strategic partnership in video call

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday discussed Jordanian-German ties and means of bolstering the two countries’ strategic partnership across various sectors.

During the video call, attended by HRH Prince Ghazi, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, King Abdullah and Chancellor Merkel stressed the importance of maintaining coordination and consultation over issues of mutual concern, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty expressed appreciation of Germany’s support for Jordan and the region, and its role in enhancing food security, stressing the importance of unifying efforts in this regard.

The call covered Jordan’s efforts to counter COVID-19 and include refugees in its vaccine distribution plan, as the first refugee in the world who received the vaccine was in the Kingdom.

Discussions also addressed regional and international developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.

Chancellor Merkel expressed best wishes to the King on the occasion of Jordan’s centennial, wishing the Kingdom and its people further prosperity and progress.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Adviser to His Majesty for Policies Haifa Khraisha attended the video call.
