AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday reaffirmed his confidence in Jordanians’ ability to rise to the occasion, stressing the importance of adhering to official regulations to safeguard their health and safety.

Chairing via teleconference a meeting, attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, to follow up on the measures taken to counter the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), King Abdullah emphasised the importance of keeping citizens informed of all efforts to counter the virus and the regulations aimed at containing it, according to a Royal Court statement.

During the meeting — also attended by HRH Prince Feisal, adviser to His Majesty and chairperson of the National Policies Council — His Majesty checked on Jordan's strategic reserve, which officials confirmed is available in sufficient quantities.

The King called for covering citizens’ needs for basic food supplies for the short and medium terms during the curfew, underscoring the need for citizens to avoid mass gatherings during these times, the statement said.

Following up on the medical measures taken, His Majesty urged providing additional COVID-19 detection kits.

The King also called for closely following up on the economic repercussions of the virus, according to the statement.

During the meeting, His Majesty was briefed by Prime Minister Omar Razzaz and the concerned stakeholders on the mechanisms of implementing measures to counter COVID-19 and safeguard public health and safety, while taking into account covering citizens’ basic needs.
