King discusses ties with South Korean foreign minister

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah held talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se on Sunday, reviewing ways to boost Jordanian-Korean relations, especially in the fields of economy, investment, commerce and tourism. 

Discussions also addressed the latest developments in the Middle East and issues of joint concern, especially Middle East peace efforts on the basis of the two-state solution, a Royal Court statement said. 

Talks also covered latest developments pertaining to crisis in Syria and conditions in Iraq, as international and regional efforts are under way to confront the danger of terrorism, which threatens world peace and security. 

The foreign minister expressed his country’s appreciation of Jordan’s role in fostering regional stability and security and handling challenges, the statement said. 

With regard to bilateral relations, Yun said Seoul is commitmed to, and interested in developing its cooperation with the Kingdom in various fields, including tourism and especially religious tourism.

He said his country appreciates the Kingdom’s assistance to Syrian refugees despite its limited resources, stressing South Korea’s support for Jordan in this area. 

On Saturday, the Korean diplomat chaired the meeting of Korean ambassadors in the Middle East which was held in Amman, while on Sunday he took part in the 11th Korea Middle East Cooperation Forum.

Jordan and South Korea are both non-permanent members of the UN’s Security Council.
