AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday, on the first anniversary of the Karak attacks, took to Twitter to remember those who lost their lives in the attacks.
“Peace be upon the souls of our martyrs and salute to those who made sacrifices; peace be upon the Karak Castle and salute to the loyal and resilient Jordanians; peace to each mother, father, son and daughter who offered loved ones for the homeland to stay resilient in the face of khawarij and evils of terrorism; and peace be upon this land that has always been and will remain the land of true men and garden of martyrs,” His Majesty tweeted.
On his Instagram account, HRH Crown Prince Hussein also commemorated the occasion.
“A salute to the heroes who sacrificed their souls to protect #Karak and #OurJordan from the forces of darkness. A year on, Jordan continues to stand tall and determined in the face of evil. May the souls of our martyrs rest in peace,” Crown Prince Hussein posted on Instagram.
Ten people, including four police officers and three gendarmes, were killed in the attack in the southern governorate of Karak, which also resulted in the death of four terrorists.
Two civilians and a Canadian national were killed and 34 civilians and police officers injured when the four gunmen stormed the southern city and fired at security and civilians before heading to Karak Castle.
Also on Monday, King Abdullah visited Karak and met with dignitaries and community leaders on the occasion, a source said, stopping short of elaborating on the visit.
Meanwhile, the Karak Castle was lit, and its walls covered with the Jordanian flag and the Hashemite banner in remembrance of the fallen men and women.
Karak Governor Sami Habarneh said that the Karak attacks unified all Jordanians who help security forces in defending the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
