AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday, the first day of Ramadan, at Al Husseiniya Palace attended a signing that marked the launch of the “King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein Waqf for the Integral Chair for the Study of Imam Al Suyuti’s Work at Al Husseini Grand Mosque”.
This initiative, by the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, comes in observance of the sunna of waqf, to shed light on Imam Al Suyuti’s legacy and work, and to revive the tradition of scholarly waqf, a Royal Court statement said.
HRH Prince Ghazi, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, along with a number of Islamic figures witnessed the signing.
His Majesty’s donation to the waqf comes from the Templeton Prize sum, which he received in November 2018.
Three boards will be established for the waqf, the first of which is a board of trustees, whose task is to supervise it, according to the statement.
The second is a financial and investment board to oversee the investment and development of the waqf funds.
The third, which is the integral chair board, directly oversees the scholarly matters related to the chair.
The integral chair board, headed by Prince Ghazi, comprises the following members: The minister of awqaf and Islamic affairs, chairman of the board of trustees of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, the grand mufti of Jordan, President of the World Islamic Sciences and Education University and the imam of Al Husseini Grand Mosque, the statement added.
