AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday attended a ceremony marking the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Mohammed, held by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs at the cultural centre of the King Abdullah I Mosque.

The ceremony included a recital of verses from the Holy Koran, as well as religious chants performed by a group from the Ministry of Awqaf and students from the Islamic Educational College Schools, according to a statement from the Royal Court.

Speaking at the ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Awqaf Minister Mohammad Khalaileh highlighted the virtues of Islam and underscored the message of Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, as a blessing for humanity and a timeless call for tolerance and harmony.

King Abdullah bestowed the Order of the State Centennial on a number of institutions for their role in promoting the true image of Islam in service of the nation and its people.

His Majesty also bestowed Royal medals on a number of individuals in recognition of their charitable work, contributions to the Zakat Fund, and care for orphans.

A number of senior officials and officers attended the ceremony, the statement said.
