AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday discussed efforts to revive the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations and developments in the region with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, according to a Royal Court statement.
At the meeting held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, His Majesty highlighted the importance of supporting efforts to relaunch peace negotiations towards implementing the two-state solution, stressing Jordan’s role in protecting Jerusalem’s holy sites.
For his part, Abbas commended the King’s efforts and Jordan’s historical role in supporting Palestine, its people and cause, the statement said, underlining the Hashemite custodianship over holy shrines in Jerusalem.
The two leaders stressed the importance of continuous coordination in international arenas to serve the cause and achieve peace. They reviewed the latest developments in the region and ways to deal with ensuing challenges.
His Majesty held an iftar banquet in honour of Abbas and the accompanying delegation, also attended by senior officials from both sides.
