Khasawneh, UNHCR commissioner discuss means to increase refugee support

AMMAN — Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Sunday met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, attended by Minister of State for Follow-up and Government Coordination Nawaf Tall, Khasawneh and Grandi discussed prospects of cooperation between Jordan and UN agencies providing humanitarian and relief services to Syrian refugees. Khasawneh highlighted the Jordan-UNHCR partnership to provide basic services to Syrian refugees, urging the international community and donor countries to continue providing necessary support to host communities.
The prime minister also referred to economic challenges facing the Kingdom, focusing on the pressure on Jordanian infrastructure, education, health, water and job opportunities. Grandi voiced UNHCR’s appreciation towards Jordan for bearing the pressure of hosting Syrian refugees.
He expressed UNHCR and relevant UN organisations’ keenness to rally international support for refugees and assist host countries.
