AMMAN — Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs, Abdullah Kanaan, on Monday called on international human rights and humanitarian organisations, including the media, to intensify their efforts in exposing Israel’s racist practices against Palestinian people.

The racist measures adopted by the Israeli government, under the escalating influence of the extreme right, have made “the Palestinian reality a model, surpassing what was practiced in South Africa, especially given that we are facing racism that goes beyond race and colour to include targeting of religions and Arab cultural identity, and even the Palestinian human presence, which is subject to displacement and killing”, Kanaan said, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

In a press statement issued on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which falls on Tuesday, Kanaan added that statistics of 2022 show that there are approximately 7 million displaced Palestinians living outside of their occupied homeland, Palestine, and more than 1,000 buildings have been demolished, 30 per cent of which are in Jerusalem.

“The number of martyrs has reached about 224, while prisoners are about 7,000”, he said. Moreover, the number of deportation orders from Jerusalem is about 871, in addition to many racist laws that target the comprehensive oppression of Palestinians, including prisoners and detainees, and the trend towards revoking citizenship and residency, and carrying out executions of those proven guilty before Israeli courts, which fabricate false charges, he added.
