AMMAN — With the aim of achieving social justice while reducing financial burdens on the state Treasury, the Ministry of Justice on Sunday floated a tender for the purchase of 1,500 electronic bracelets of a total of 4,000 that will be purchased in three stages as an alternative for detention in correction and rehabilitation centres.
Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni said that the e-bracelet is to be used by the judiciary to avoid detaining some people in correctional and rehabilitation centres for misdemeanours, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
They also aim to alleviate the financial costs borne by the Public Security budget, which amount to JD750 per month for each detainee, as JD1,125,000 will be saved per month and JD14,625,000 will be saved annually.
The utilisation of the e-bracelets is expected to commence after about three months, he noted. An e-bracelet is an electronic device used for monitoring designed with specifications that do not hinder a person’s daily activity, Petra added.
