Judeh inaugurates Jordanian embassy in Nicosia

AMMAN — Following up on His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to Cyprus in September and meeting with President Nicos Anastasiades, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Friday met with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides over means to build on the outcomes of the visit.
Also on Friday, Judeh inaugurated the Jordanian embassy in Nicosia, in the presence of senior Cypriot officials and accredited diplomats in Cyprus, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the inauguration ceremony, Judeh said that opening a Jordanian embassy in Cyprus is an important step towards developing cooperation and highlights joint keenness on enhancing bilateral relations.
Kasoulides also affirmed the importance of inaugurating the embassy for its role in boosting cooperation and enhancing relations, especially after 55 years of establishing bilateral ties between Jordan and Cyprus.
He also expressed his country’s interest in developing relations with the Kingdom further.
At the meeting held Friday, the two officials stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in the tourist, economic and cultural sectors as well as exchanging visits between both countries’ public and private sectors.
Judeh voiced his appreciation for Cyprus’ stances that support Jordan, whether directly or through its membership in the EU.
Discussions covered efforts to revive the Middle East peace process, the latest developments in Syria and means to combat extremism worldwide.
On the sidelines of the talks, the two ministers signed agreements on cultural and educational cooperation as well as exempting holders of diplomatic passports from visas.
