JRP 2021 only reaches 30.6% of target funding — Planning Ministry

AMMAN — Funding for the Jordan Response Plan (JRP) for the Syrian crisis during 2021 amounted to about $744.4 million, or 30.6 per cent of the plan’s requirements of $2.432 billion, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation’s data showed that the 2021 financing deficit amounted to about $1,687 billion, or 69.4 per cent, of the annual budget allocated to support Syrian refugees in Jordan. 

According to the ministry, $136 million was allocated to support host communities, out of $192 million requested, while $538 million was allocated for refugee support, out of $617 million. 

The plan also targeted infrastructure, with about $55 million out of $412 million, to fund infrastructure-related projects. 

The coronavirus response, which was recently added to the plan, was funded with $14 million. However, the total funding requirement for the COVID-19 response was set at $261 million.

The 2021 treasury support, which required $948 million, was not funded. 

The data indicated that the plan funded the health sector with $126 million, economic empowerment with $260 million, the education sector with $47 million, social protection and justice with $272 million, public services with $13 million, shelter with $13 million, and sanitation services with $13 million dollars. 

Germany topped the list of donor countries for the response plan, with funding of about $179 million, followed by the US with about $173 million, and then multilateral funds worth about $71 million, and then the EU through the European Trust Fund, with about $50 million. 

The funding volume of Jordan's Response Plan to the Syrian crisis amounted in 2020 to about $1.11 billion, out of $2.24 billion, with a financing rate of 49.4 per cent.
