The total value of 739,000 imported cellular devices during the January-May period of this year reaches about JD61 million
AMMAN — The total value of 739,000 imported cellular devices during the January-May period of this year reached about JD61 million.
In a statement to Petra on Saturday, Head of Association of Mobiles and Accessories Investors (Vision), Ahmed Alloush, said the value of 636,000 imported devices reached JD66 million in the same period last year 2023, pointing out that these numbers show a “notable” difference in market performance over the two years, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Alloush noted the average price of the device in 2023 was about JD103.77 each, while cost decreased in the current year to reach JD82.55.
Alloush stressed that the increase in the high imports in 2024, compared to 2023, despite the decrease in the total value, indicates the import of cheaper devices.
In this regard, he attributed this situation to the decline in global mobile phone prices, focus on importing cheaper types, or the presence of discounts.
Alloush added that these numbers reflect demand on less expensive devices, which may reflect market changes, indicating that importers have moved towards providing cheaper options to consumers to maintain the sales level.
The association, he said, continues to follow up and provide “accurate” analysis of the market to provide the “necessary” data and information to support investors in making their decisions.
This data is taken from Jordan Customs Department and revised to meet the needs of the growing local market, the statement pointed out.
