Jordan’s GAFTA exports up 7.8% in January, February of 2023

AMMAN — The Kingdom’s trade balance deficit with Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) countries dropped 18.5 per cent in the first two months of 2023, reaching JD396 million, compared with the JD486 million deficit recorded in the same period of 2022, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Thursday.

According to the DoS foreign trade data, the value of national exports to GAFTA countries in January and February of 2023 grew by 7.8 per cent to some JD383 million, compared with JD356 million during the corresponding period of 2022, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The value of the Kingdom's imports from GAFTA countries dropped by 7.5 per cent to some JD779 million in the first two months of the current year, compared with the same period in 2022, which amounted to about JD842 million, the DoS added.

The volume of Jordan's trade exchange with the GAFTA nations during January and February of 2023 reached JD1.16 billion, compared with about JD1.2 billion in the same period last year, according to the DoS data.

Saudi Arabia topped the list of Jordan's exports to GAFTA countries in the January-February period with JD127 million, while the United Arab Emirates topped the list of countries from which Jordan imports with some JD172 million.
