Jordan’s advancement in political modernisation ‘remarkable’ — HSF

AMMAN — Jordan is witnessing remarkable development in the political modernisation system and is moving towards the goals set to enhance the role of women and youth in partisan and political participation, Kristof W. Duwaerts, regional representative of the Jordan office for Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), said on Friday.

In an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Duwaerts said that “modern Jordanian legislation” allows young Jordanians to actively participate in partisan and political life and drive civil society towards “drawing the contours of the future” it wants and to face the challenges.

He added that the goals of the HSF are in harmony with the objectives of the government in increasing and boosting the participation of women and youth in public work, adding that this would be through programmes implemented by the foundation in partnership with the government and civil society organisations.

Duwaerts noted that the foundation sought to achieve the recommendations of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System since it established several programmes and projects to educate Jordanians about the new laws and the need to participate in the decision-making process.

He said the foundation supported the training of 4,500 public officials and youth on good governance, integrity and combating corruption.

Duwaerts noted that the foundation would launch the “She Can” project next month, with the aim of establishing a national pressure platform for women’s rights defenders in remote areas in Jordan.
