AMMAN — Chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment (IMCWE) and Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa, and Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) Maha Ali have submitted a letter of solidarity with women in Gaza to UN Undersecretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Sima Bahous.

The letter, signed by Jordanian women on November 9 as part of a collaborative initiative by IMCWE, JNCW and the National Centre for Human Rights, called for immediate cessation of the war crimes in Gaza and demanded accountability of those responsible for crimes against humanity, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During a meeting with Bahous, Bani Mustafa highlighted Jordan's crucial role, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, in efforts to halt the war on Gaza and facilitate humanitarian aid.

The minister underscored the impact of the Gaza Strip aggression, particularly on women and children, labeling it as "genocide" and calling for international intervention.

Bani Mustafa emphasised the need to use international platforms to raise the alarm about the plight of the people of Gaza, particularly women and children.

She also called for the empowerment and support of Palestinian women, especially those shouldering the responsibility of their families.

Ali stressed the significance of the Jordanian women's solidarity letter, which urged immediate action to halt the Gaza war and address the atrocities committed.

Bahous commended the Kingdom's comprehensive response strategies for women and girls in Gaza and affirmed UN Women's commitment to supporting Jordan’s efforts in both political and economic realms, particularly that Jordan hosts over one million refugees.

The solidarity message, "Women of Jordan with Women of Gaza," sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, called on the international community to act against the war crimes in Gaza.
