AMMAN — The Jordanian-Saudi joint technical committee for land transport concluded its meetings on Monday by recommending adhering to technical conditions to boost road safety, and moving ahead with the customs technical connectivity project.

The meetings, commenced on Sunday, were chaired by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport Wisam Tahtamouni and Saudi Deputy Chairman of the Transport General Authority Fawaz Sahly, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The two sides agreed to enhance collaboration between Riyadh and Amman for improving passenger and freight flow, with the aim of facilitating transportation and the trade exchange between the two kingdoms.

The committee discussed issues of concern to carriers in the two countries, where talks stressed the importance of providing all facilities and removing obstacles to the movement of goods and passengers, and emphasised compliance with the requirements and conditions for the entry of Jordanian buses into Saudi territory during the pilgrimage season.

The committee held its last meeting in November in Riyadh, where it discussed the challenges facing carriers and licensed facilities in road transport.

The committee, at the time, agreed on a set of solutions that are envisioned to contribute to facilitating procedures and supporting the movement of passengers and cargo in a way that serves joint interests and promotes trade and economic exchange between the two countries, according to a previous statement issued by the committee.
