AMMAN — Jordan’s Mosaica Singers have recently won the Choir of the Year award at Choir Fest Middle East held in Dubai, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.
The Mosaica Singers competed with a number of choirs from the Middle East, and were voted first by a judging panel comprised of European professors, composers and musicians.
The judges cited the Mosaica Singers’ harmony, vocal techniques, song selection and number of languages used (including Spanish, Italian and Swahili) in their selection.
“It is such a privilege for us as a cultural institute to have this opportunity to put Jordan’s name on the map of choral singing in a prestigious competition,” said Nedy Muna, the choir’s general manager and conductor.
Muna added that the choir’s success stems from their emphasis on individuality and the ability to come together as one voice to enrich people’s lives through music.
According to the statement, the annual competition started in 2013 and involves two weeks of workshops and masterclasses taught by specialised professors, which ends with a winner being declared.
Mosaica Singers was only recently founded in January and held its first concert in February, according to the statement, which added that the choir’s conductor has led performances in Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, the UAE and the US.
