Jordan will not be put off by regional chaos — King tells CNBC

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah has said that regional problems would not prevent Jordan from moving ahead with its development plans, adding that crises in the neighbourhood have always been a driver for progress as far as the Kingdom is concerned.

He made his remarks during an interview with CNBC Middle East’s Hadley Gamble ahead of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa (WEF-MENA) meeting, slated for
May 21-23.

A Royal Court statement released a brief summary of the interview, in which King Abdullah focused on the competitive edge of Jordan as a unique investment destination.

His Majesty outlined the Kingdom’s efforts to relaunch its economy by focusing on several economic sectors, supporting entrepreneurship and taking the education system to a new level, according to the statement. 

In the interview, which focused on economic issues, the King highlighted the secure and stable investment environment in the country, in addition to key advantages like the access it offers to major markets through its geographical location and via free trade agreements it has signed with economic powers, including the US, Canada, Gulf countries and others.

According to the Royal Court, the WEF-MENA meeting is expected to witness the announcement of mega investments and the signing of projects in the fields of alternative energy, infrastructure and others.
