Jordan takes part in meeting of Arab countries hosting Palestine refugees in Beirut

AMMAN — Jordan on Monday participated in the coordination meeting of Arab countries hosting Palestine refugees and the Arab League, held in Beirut at the invitation of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee. 

The meeting was attended by Director-General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA) Rafiq Khirfan and delegations from Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, as well as Egypt and a delegation from the Arab League, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The meeting is held in preparation for the two-day meetings of the Advisory Commission of UNRWA, scheduled to kick off in Beirut on Tuesday.

Khirfan commended Lebanon's efforts over the past two years in chairing the advisory committee and the working group, welcoming Syria's return to the Arab League after more than 12 years.

He also stressed that the continued work of UNRWA in providing basic services contributes to the stability of Palestine refugee communities, host countries, the region and the world at large, stressing the need for the international community to continue to provide political and financial support to the agency as part of its obligations towards Palestine refugees and their cause.

The DPA director general also addressed the agency's financial situation and its endeavours to seek adequate funding before September, in light of its projections of insufficient funding to carry out its services for that period, calling on countries that had decided to reduce their contributions to reconsider their decisions.
