AMMAN — A 94-year-old woman died of coronavirus and 33 new COVID-19 cases, including 29 local infections, were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, according to the government.
The woman was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Saturday and passed away at Al Bashir Hospital on Sunday, according to a joint statement by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry.
Sunday’s infections increase the Kingdom’s caseload to 1,609.
The local cases comprised 26 infections in Amman, of which 21 are contacts of COVID-19 patients, while the sources of the other five patients are under investigation.
Also among the domestic infections is a person in Madaba, who contracted the virus from a COVID-19 patient.
Added to the local infections is a non-Jordanian worker in Aqaba, whose source of infection is under investigation, according to the statement.
The cases from abroad comprised four Jordanians — one returning from Bahrain, one from Turkey, one from Saudi Arabia and one from Bangladesh — who have been in quarantine at designated hotels.
Fifty-two recoveries were registered during the last 24 hours, the statement said.
A total of 7,827 random virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the beginning of the crisis to 745,100.
Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by Defence Order No.11 and adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.
The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a person infected with the virus, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to the COVID-19 disease, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological status.
