Jordan records lowest coronavirus death toll for months

AMMAN — Sixteen COVID-19 deaths and 743 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 719,976.
The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 9,092, according to a government statement.
The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 4.96 per cent, compared with 5.95 per cent reported on Saturday.
A total of 14,968 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,839,470, according to the statement.
The statement added that 2,386 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 703,577.
The statement added that there are currently 7,307 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.
A total of 92 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 963, the statement said, adding that 102 recovered patients left hospitals.
On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 16 per cent, ICU beds reached 35 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 24 per cent.
In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 18 per cent, 40 per cent ICUs and 20 per cent for ventilators.
The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 11 per cent, 14 per cent for ICUs and 13 per cent for ventilators.
The cases comprised 192 infections in Amman, 90 in Irbid, including four in Ramtha District, 42 in Balqa, 73 in Karak, 29 in Jerash, 118 in Zarqa, 35 in Aqaba, 20 in Madaba, 54 in Mafraq, 27 in Ajloun, 49 in Tafileh and 14 in Maan, including six cases in Petra District.
