Jordan records $1.671b tourism revenue in Q1 2023 — CBJ

AMMAN — Tourism revenue amounted to $1.671 billion during the first quarter of 2023, an 88.4 per cent increase compared to the same period of last year, data by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) revealed on Monday.

According to the data, Jordanians' expenditure on outbound tourism rose 68.4 per cent during the January-March period of 2023 compared with the first quarter of 2022, reaching $422.3 million, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The data indicated a growth of 49 per cent in tourism income during March 2023, standing at JD435.8 million ($614.7 million) compared to the same month last year.

CBJ data attributed the revenue spike to an increase in the number of tourists arriving in the Kingdom during the first quarter of 2023, which saw 1.476 million guests. This figure marks a 90.7 per cent increase from the previous year's vacationers.

Overnight tourists reached 1.204 million in the January-March period of 2023, up by 80.9 per cent compared with the corresponding period of 2022, while one-day tourists reached 272,100 individuals, up by 151.2 per cent.

In March 2023, Jordanians' expenditure on tourism abroad amounted to JD99.2 million ($139.9 million), up by 26.2 per cent compared with the same month of 2022, the figures showed. 

Tourist expenditure abroad increased by 68.4 per cent to JD299.4 million ($422.3 million), the CBJ data indicated.
