Jordan promotes Petra at iHERITAGE meeting in Granada

AMMAN — Jordan has participated in the third meeting of the iHERITAGE, ICT Mediterranean platform for UNESCO cultural heritage, funded by the EU, under the framework of the Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme, which aims to promote the archaeological sites in the world, including the city of Petra.
Held in Granada and hosted by the Andalusian Public Foundation, the meeting featured the Jordanian Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship and Creativity (JSSREC), and the Department of Antiquities (DoA) from Jordan, the Castle and Medieval Towns Circuit Association and the University of Palermo from Italy, and the Andalusian Public Foundation from Spain.
The meeting also included Algarve University from Portugal, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME).
During the meeting, Director General of the DoA Fadi Balawi announced holding the 15th International Conference on Archeology in July 2022.
He pointed out that the department will hold a special workshop focusing on iHERITAGE, during which partners will present the achievements of the project and the development of its workflow.
The project will benefit Petra by creating innovative ICT projects, prepare videos and using other methods to promote tourism to the rose-red city.
