AMMAN — Director of the Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Department Khalil Abdallat said on Sunday that Jordan has completed and submitted its fourth human rights Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report at the UN Human Rights Council in accordance with established international procedures.

During a special segment on Al Balad Radio in cooperation with the Waey Centre for Human Rights Training, Abdallat said that the Foreign Ministry had submitted the report through diplomatic channels within the Jordanian mission in Geneva.

He added that the report has now been published on the website of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, marking the beginning of its discussion scheduled for 25 January at the 45th Commission session.

He also highlighted the key role of the national consultation methodology carried out by the Human Rights Department in refining the national report, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He said that the department conducted over 13 consultation sessions involving more than 1,700 participants from various national institutions, civil society organisations, media, legislative authorities, governorate councils, and various sectors representing youth, women and persons with disabilities.

He also said that the national report covers seven key areas, including the legal and legislative framework, public issues, and civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. It also addresses the rights of specific groups such as women, children, persons with disabilities and refugees.

The documents also focused on good practices and challenges in the human rights implementation in Jordan during the previous period. Abdallat said that they included a second collective document from UN agencies, as well as stakeholders' documents containing over 63 testimonies from alliances and civil society institutions, reported Petra.

He mentioned organizing dialogue meetings before and after the report discussion to highlight partnership between the government and civil society.
