AMMAN — The higher steering committee to follow up on Syrian refugee affairs convened on Saturday and listened to a briefing by Brig. Gen. Wadah Hmoud, director of the Syrian Refugees Affairs Directorate, on the humanitarian services Jordan presents to the refugees. Official data shows the number of Syrian refugee students in the Kingdom increased from 121,000 at the beginning of the year to 141,000, with many other school-age children not attending classes. Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, head of the committee, stressed that Syrian students should not be deprived of their right to learn, adding that education is a moral and legal duty Jordan has to provide to these children. The committee also estimated the cost of health services to Syrians in 2014 at around $253 million.
