AMMAN — The Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday marked the International Museum Day (IMD), which falls on May 18. The ministry's celebrations entailed the reopening of a museum at the lowest point on Earth, after seeing renovation works, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
A number of temporary exhibitions at the Department of Antiquities' (DoA) museums were held and an awareness campaign about the museum at the lowest point on Earth was launched for school students. Hotels and airports were provided with brochures about the Kingdom's museums, as part of the activities.
The objective of the IMD is to raise awareness of the fact that “museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples," according to the International Council of Museums (ICOM) website.
