AMMAN — Jordanians on Thursday celebrate the 23rd anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah’s coronation with the determination to move ahead with the modernisation process in line with His Majesty’s vision and aspirations.

On this occasion, Jordanians are proud of the homeland’s achievements that were realised through the determination of a leader and the will of the people, reiterating their resolve to continue building on these accomplishments as the Jordanian state enters its second centennial, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Since assuming his constitutional responsibilities, on June 9, 1999, King Abdullah has always been keen on making the Kingdom a model in the region, where, over 23 years, he has devoted his relentless efforts to establish solid relations with numerous brotherly and friendly countries, support international peace efforts, and stand with Arab and Islamic nations and serve their just causes.

Since His Majesty took the constitutional oath, His Majesty has continued with the approach of His Majesty the late King Hussein, where King Abdullah’s priorities have focused on increasing the living conditions of citizens and developing the level of services presented to them.

His Majesty always highlights the importance of instilling the principles of transparency, accountability and the rule of law, in addition to achieving justice, equal opportunities, enhancing anti-corruption system and enhancing cooperation and coordination among all institutions.

Jordan, under the King’s leadership, moves ahead towards political, economic and administrative modernisation, where 2021 witnessed forming the Royal Committee for Modernising the Political System.

His Majesty tasked the committee with drafting new laws for elections and political parties and considering relevant Constitutional amendments and work of Parliament.

These efforts were completed through endorsing these legislations that would keep pace with modernisation, enhance political participation and empower youth and women.

King Abdullah also recently attended the launch of the Economic Modernisation Vision, which will be a national roadmap across governments.

The vision, which will be implemented in three phases over 10 years, includes 366 initiatives in various sectors, as part of eight national economic growth drivers that focus on unleashing Jordan’s full potential to achieve comprehensive sustainable growth and generate job opportunities.

His Majesty, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), also attaches great importance to JAF and other security apparatuses and he is always keen for these institutions to be at the top levels of preparation and training to be able to protect the homeland and its gains through improving the living conditions of its personnel and ex-servicemen.

King Abdullah is also keen on visiting areas of the Kingdom and meeting citizens, where he always stresses the importance of youth participation, communicating with them and developing their capabilities.

Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty, continues its historical role in caring for Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem out of the Hashemite Custodianship over these holy sites, where King Abdullah devotes his efforts to ensure the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the significance of reaching a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

In appreciation of his efforts at the global level, King Abdullah and Her Majesty Queen Rania received the 2022 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity in appreciation of Their Majesties’ efforts to promote human fraternity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

Also, Their Majesties on May 10 in New York received the Path to Peace Award, presented by the Path to Peace Foundation affiliated with the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations.

Their Majesties received the award in appreciation of their role in promoting interfaith harmony and dialogue, as well as bolstering prospects for peace, and in recognition of Jordan’s humanitarian efforts to host refugees.

Alongside His Majesty, Queen Rania, under several initiative and institutions that she founded in educational and development fields, works to effect change that matches the national development priorities and educational needs through the Queen Rania Foundation and Jordan River Foundation.
