'Jordan to join reconstruction efforts of war-torn countries’

AMMAN — Jordan is joining reconstruction efforts in war-ravaged countries in the region, a World Bank official said on Saturday, while urging the Kingdom's private sector to build alliances with counterparts in the Arab world.

Abdullah Dardari, senior advisor on reconstruction in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) division of the World Bank, said reconstruction efforts require “huge” sums, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that the World Bank offers advice and financial support for inter-governmental reconstruction strategies.

Jordan, Dardari said, had been greatly impacted by regional crises, which is reflected by the country's low growth rates.

The advisor said that Jordan had been working to join the reconstruction efforts in neighboring countries, adding that the World Bank is engaged in a bid to attract investment within the Jordan Compact, adopted after the London conference last year, regarding the employment of Jordanians and Syrians. This endeavour, he said, needed the support of the international community.

Dardari said Jordan will participate in the reconstruction of three countries, adding that dialogue is under way with Iraq, Libya and Yemen.

He said Jordan hosts a large number of refugees and had a role in providing healthcare, services and even consultation, adding that the Kingdom's position in reconstruction in the MENA region is extremely important, referring to the Kingdom's skilled human resources.
