AMMAN — Out of 132 countries, Jordan has reached 78th place on the Global Innovation Index 2022 (GII), an improvement of three places.
Most of Jordan’s improvements are on the Innovation Output Sub-Index, with the Kingdom moving from 81th place in 2021 to 78th in 2022.
Jordan also progressed on the Innovation Input Sub-Index, jumping from 79th in 2021 to 71st in 2022, according to a World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) statement, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Thursday.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Al Shamali said that this progress demonstrates the government's interest in innovation indexes and reflects its efforts to improve the economic situation and increase the Kingdom's attractiveness to investors.
In this context, an agreement was signed on Thursday to establish technology and innovation support centres with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, to complement the establishment of these centres across the Kingdom, totalling 19 agreements.
The index, issued by the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, INSEAD & WIPO, aims to allow countries to assess their respective national innovation systems as well as incentivise countries to adopt innovation metrics.
