Jordan has never intervened in affairs of unrest-hit countries — PM

AMMAN — Jordan has never intervened in the affairs of countries going through revolutions and dealing with various internal challenges, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said Thursday, stressing that this decision shows the Kingdom’s wise leadership.

At a meeting with Bahrain’s Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed Bin Ibrahim Al Mulla, Ensour added that the Kingdom has been able to face the challenges “thanks to the awareness of Jordanians and the wise leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah”.

Commending the depth of relations with Bahrain, the premier briefed Mulla on the challenges facing Jordan, as it hosts 1.4 million Syrians, around 2.25 million Palestinian refugees and thousands of Iraqis, Yemenis and Libyans.

Some 650 Egyptian workers are also in the Kingdom, while around 1 million Jordanians work abroad, he said at the meeting, attended by Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani and the Lower House’s first deputy speaker, Ahmad Safadi.

Ensour noted that the biggest victim of all the terrorist acts taking place in neighbouring countries is Islam, as extremists ruined its true, peaceful image.

Mulla conveyed the greetings of Bahraini King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, Prime Minister Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, and Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa to Ensour, congratulating Jordan on King Abdullah’s coronation anniversary, the 99th anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt and Army Day.

The official said the security of Bahrain and Jordan are one and the same.

Also on Thursday, Senate President Abdur-Rau’f S. Rawabdeh met separately with Mulla and the accompanying delegation, and called for boosting bilateral relations.
