AMMAN — The government is following up on the latest updates between the G-6 countries and Iran on the Iranian nuclear deal which US President Donald Trump’s cancelled the night before, Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said on Wednesday.

Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, stressed that Jordan has historically supported international efforts to end the proliferation of nuclear and mass destruction weapons in the region and the entire world, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Enhancing the security and stability in the region and worldwide is a top priority for humanity, the minister said, stressing the importance of taking all necessary measures to realise that and guarantee Iran’s commitment to the international law.

He called on Iran to respond to negotiations called by Trump, sustain dialogue and cooperate with all stakeholders to empty the region from mass destruction weapons, as well as reaching understandings to stop the spread of nuclear weapons and halt the arms race that threatens the entire world.

In this regard, Momani renewed the Kingdom’s support for establishing nuclear-weapons-free zones around the world, especially in the Middle East.

The minister referred to Jordan’s efforts in contacting all stakeholders, supporting all steps aiming at enhancing cooperation among all members of the international community, ensuring the respect of regional countries’ domestic affairs, supporting prosperity programmes and boosting development, peace and stability among regional peoples.

Momani also renewed the Kingdom’s stances on disarmament and the promotion of peace, security and stability around the world, stressing this cannot be achieved with the presence of nuclear and mass destruction weapons.
