Jordan continues work to end Israeli violations — FM

AMMAN — Jordan on Wednesday asserted that it will continue to confront Israeli violations against Islamic sites in Jerusalem whenever they occur, noting that it maintains all its options to protect Al Haram Al Sharif, in line with the Kingdom’s historic role and the 1994 Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty.

Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh made the remarks during his participation in the first meeting of the ministerial contact group entrusted with defending the Palestinian issue and Jerusalem, which was held in Rabat.  

During the past few weeks, the Israeli occupying forces used force, closed Al Haram Sharif and prevented worshippers from entering it, and it was not opened until Jordan put political and diplomatic pressure on Israel, Judeh told his audience. 

The blatant Israeli violations culminated on November 5, when Israeli forces stormed into Al Aqsa, attacked worshippers and damaged parts of the mosque structure, the official pointed out. 

He said Jordan’s intensive efforts are continuing at present to implement a set of measures to guarantee that such violations by the Israeli occupying forces are not repeated.

Jordan, in line with the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in East Jerusalem, directly confronts Israeli violations and calls on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in holding Israel accountable for such violations, Judeh said.
