AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a law allowing the return of settlers to four settlements in the West Bank.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sinan Majali described building settlements as a flagrant violation of international law and international resolutions, foremost of which is Security Council Resolution No. 2334, which stipulates that settlements have no legal validity in all occupied Palestinian territories, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Such illegal measures impede efforts to limit escalation, achieve a state of calm and build a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, he added.
Unilateral measures undertaken by Israel, the occupying power, including building and expanding settlements, seizing land and displacing Palestinians, are illegitimate and condemned, representing a serious violation of international humanitarian law, Majali said, adding that such actions undermine the foundation of peace, as well as efforts to resolve the conflict, and achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
