AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval of a law barring the establishment of diplomatic missions within Palestine, specifically in the occupied East Jerusalem.

The ministry emphasised that all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition and legal status quo of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, are null and void, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The ministry spokesperson stressed that Israel, as an occupying power, must stop its continued violations and breaches of the historical and legal status quo of the occupied Jerusalem.

The official also urged Israel to stop imposing new realities on the ground, especially amid its ongoing military actions in Gaza and Lebanon and the escalating violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

The spokesperson also stressed that all Israeli attempts to annex the occupied Jerusalem violate international law, UN Security Council resolutions, and the recent advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.

The official reiterated that these actions do not alter the fact that Israel's presence in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, constitutes an illegal occupation that must end.

The spokesperson stressed that ending the occupation is essential to achieving the two-state solution, with a sovereign and independent Palestinian on the pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take a decisive and unequivocal stance against these violations and take concrete action to stop them.

Also on Wednesday, Jordan condemned a recent massacre by Israeli forces targeting a residential building in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, which resulted in hundreds of casualties and left many others wounded or trapped under the rubble.

The Foreign ministry described the incident as a "flagrant violation" of international law, characterising it as part of a systematic targeting of Palestinian lives amid the ongoing lack of accountability for war crimes committed against them.

The ministry spokesperson highlighted Israel’s continued violations against Palestinians and breaches of international and humanitarian laws, stressing that these actions underscore a global failure to uphold legal standards and intensified the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the aggression has persisted for over a year.

The official stressed that the absence of accountability encourages Israel to commit further violations, exacerbating the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The spokesperson also called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to end its silence and act decisively to prevent further escalation in Gaza, urging immediate international intervention to stop Israel’s ongoing violations, war crimes, and acts of genocide against Palestinians.
