AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday condemned the recent decision by the Israeli authorities to confiscate Palestinian land in the Silwan region of occupied East Jerusalem to construct an aerial train, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. Stressing its rejection, the ministry described the move as a severe breach of international law and UNESCO resolutions.

Sufian Qudah, the ministry's spokesperson, stressed that the confiscation of Palestinian lands and the forced displacement of Palestinians , along with any attempts to change Jerusalem’s status quo , constitute a blatant violation of international law and legitimate resolutions, in particular Security Council Resolution 2334.

Qudah urgently  called upon  the international community to intervene and halt Israel's unilateral and illegitimate actions. The spokesperson also reiterated that all Israeli measures aiming to alter the identity and legal status of the Old City of Jerusalem, including its walls are considered null and void.

Qudah  also emphasised that such actions are in flagrant violation of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (the World Heritage Convention), in addition to  all relevant United Nations and UNESCO resolutions.
