AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Friday condemned the recent “fanatic” remarks made by Dutch far-right MP Geert Wilders, who denied the rights of the Palestinians to freedom and statehood on their own land and called for resolving the conflict at the expense of Jordan.
During a phone call with his Dutch counterpart Stef Blok, Safadi stressed the “insignificance and lack of impact of these extremist and racist positions adopted by the Dutch MP”.
Blok reiterated her country's respect for the historic friendship between Jordan and The Netherlands, which is based on mutual respect.
She also expressed her country's commitment to the two-state solution as a means of resolving the conflict and achieving comprehensive peace.
Both ministers underlined their commitment to strengthening the friendship between the two kingdoms which spans over seventy years.
Blok stressed that a substantial majority in the Dutch parliament supports the two-state solution.
The two ministers agreed to meet for bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Union for the Mediterranean meeting scheduled to be held in Barcelona next Monday, which will be co-chaired by Jordan and the European Union.
