Jordan celebrates International Day of Older Persons

AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday marked International Day of Older Persons, observed annually on October 1.
This year’s theme is dubbed “Leaving No One Behind: Promoting a Society for All”, while the local theme is “Together towards active and energetic ageing”.
Deputising for HRH Princess Muna, Acting Health Minister Taher Shakhshir said those over 60 years old constitute 5.2 per cent of the Kingdom’s population and are expected to amount to 7.6 per cent by 2020.
He attributed such an increase to the development of health services.
