Joint efforts key in fighting cancer — Health minister

AMMAN — Minister of Health Feras Al Hawari on Saturday said that the ministry seeks partnership with reputable health institutions to care for cancer patients and provide the necessary curative and preventive medical services to advance the required and distinguished level in government hospitals, as part of its comprehensive plan to treat cancer patients.

The minister’s remarks came as he attended dialogue session coinciding with the World Cancer Day, which falls annually on February 4, organised by Himmetna, a charity advocating patients’ rights, with the participation of the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC), the Royal Medical Services (RMS), the Jordan University Hospital and the King Abdullah Hospital.

Hawari pointed out, in a statement, that the best way to deal with cancer is to defeat it through joint efforts, highlighting the need for a collective stand to fight cancer.

He lauded the role played by the Sameh Darwazeh Oncology Centre of Al Bashir Hospitals in treating cancer patients, in cooperation with the ministry and the KHCC. 

The minister pointed to the quality of the medical services provided at the Darwazeh Centre and Specialised Surgery Centre at Al Bashir Hospitals, in addition to the advanced accommodation services in these two centres.

Head of Himmetna, Fadia Samara, stressed the importance of partnership between all sectors and institutions as a key driver of national efforts to fight cancer and contribute to achieving a more efficient, fair and safe Jordanian cancer treatment system for all cancer patients.
