AMMAN — The Japanese government on Sunday announced a grant to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) for the provision of equipment for handling and storing goods in the organisation's warehouses, under the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP).

JHCO Secretary General Hussein Shibli and Chargé d'Affaires at the Japanese embassy Netsu Shuntaro signed the agreement, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Shibli said that this is not the first time JHCO has received support from the Japanese government.

The new grant, he added, is an extension of assistance provided to the organisation in 2017 to bolster its storage capacities, upgrade equipment and improve its warehouses' capacity for storing additional aid.

He also expressed pride in JHCO and the Japanese government for their congruent approach towards humanitarian work and the delivery of aid, and for augmenting JHCO warehouses with an appropriate environment for the preservation and storage of materials until their distribution.

Meanwhile, the chargé d'Affaires said that the new equipment will enable JHCO to store a larger amount of aid parcels in warehouses and improve the operational efficiency of loading and unloading supplies.

The grant aims to increase JHCO's capacity and facilitate work in its warehouses located in Zarqa, while also enhancing the capacity of aid storage by providing equipment for handling and storing goods.

Under its GGP aid framework, Japan has provided more than $10 million for 154 projects in NGOs, schools, hospitals and municipalities across Jordan since 1993, Petra added.
