JEBA organises business delegation to Czech Republic

AMMAN — The Jordan Europe Business Association (JEBA) organised an economic delegation sent to the Czech Republic on September 19, according to a statement released by JEBA. 

The delegation was sent in cooperation with various groups including: the Amman chambers of Commerce and industry, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Amman, the Czech ministry of Industry and Trade, the Chamber of Commerce Czech-Jordan and the Czech Confederation of Industry with the participation of Jordanian businessmen from various sectors.

According to the statement, the delegation began the visit by meeting the deputy minister of industry and trade of the Czech Republic, who expressed interest in developing economic relations between the two countries.

A Czech-Jordanian Business Forum was also held during the visit under the patronage of the minister of industry and trade of the Czech Republic with the attendance of many Czech business representatives and investors.

The forum focused on economic opportunities within the Kingdom in addition to the competitive advantage of the Jordanian economy, according to the statement.

On the sidelines of the forum, Jamal Fariz, JEBA president expressed that Jordan sought to strengthen economic relations with the Czech Republic by establishing networks with Czech businesses.

Fariz noted that Jordan has signed several agreements with the Czech Republic, and that Jordan has a unique combination of economic features which make it an attractive environment for foreign business and investment. He also said that Jordan is always seeking to build strong relations with other countries to enhance economic and investment relations, in addition to noting the Kingdom’s convenient location for trade and services in the region, said the statement.

Jordanian exports to the Czech Republic last year were highlighted during the forum and amounted to 145,000 euro, while imports amounted to 45 million euro. Fariz said representatives of sectors needed to work harder to increase Jordanian exports in order to adjust the trade balance.

Direct flights from Prague to Amman and Aqaba were also highlighted and will be launched in October, which is an important development to tourism, according to the statement.

Senator Ziad Al Homsi, the chairman of the Amman Chamber of Industry, in the statement said there was a need to reach preliminary agreements between businesses in both countries to achieve the desired benefit of the visit.

He said that the industrial sector in the Kingdom included around 18 thousand industrial companies which had proved their ability to work with international markets.

Homsi added that the Jordanian private sector and the industrial sector in particular have worked through the years to open more channels and networks of cooperation with business communities to enhance the exchange of trade, expertise, export and marketing information between Jordan and other countries.

The statement also mentioned that various Jordanian organisations signed agreements with their Czech counterparts that aim at developing economic and trade relations between the Czech Republic and Jordan in addition to facilitating the participation of business representatives in economic missions, exhibitions and conferences.
