AMMAN — The Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) announced that a special meeting of JEA’s central body will be held on Saturday to discuss amendments to the 2020 pension system and JEA’s law.

“More than 60 years have passed since the establishment of the JEA. The institutions need to be updated and developed,” said JEA President Ahmad Samara Zu’ bi in a video published on JEA’s Facebook page.

The president added that the association has developed an operational plan that includes the following major pillars: Legislation, digital transformation, JEA’s academy and study centre, training and employment, restructuring, JEA’s funds, entrepreneurship and innovation and health insurance.

The proposed amendments to JEA’s law include implementing proportional representation in the association’s elections, encouraging young engineers to participate in elections and allowing engineers who did not pay to restore their JEA membership, according to a JEA statement sent to The Jordan Times.

The amendments to JEA’s pension system aim to encourage young engineers to be actively involved in the fund, through introducing low-cost membership, the statement said.

The statement added that strengthening the fund’s financial position is also among the amendments’ major objectives.

The meeting will expand on JEA’S amendments given their importance to protect the fund and create employment opportunities for young engineers.

The association has published the amendments on its website.
