AMMAN — Head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir said on Tuesday that Jordan's industrial sector employs more than 250,000 workers, 90 per cent of them are Jordanians, which underscores the sector's ability to generate additional employment opportunities by increasing exports.

Speaking at a session organised by the Amman Chamber of Industry to showcase the achievements of the Industrial Sector Employment Unit, Jaghbir outlined the unit's future plans including expanding activities to the southern governorates and launching an e-platform next month to enhance collaboration with the National Employment Programme.

Established with the support of the Jordan 2030 Employment Project, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Industrial Sector Employment Unit aims to provide skilled labour for factories while boosting local employment in industrial enterprises.

During the meeting, the unit's key achievements were also reviewed, including the employment of 547 job seekers in factories, with at least 30 percent being women. Additionally, various activities such as job fairs were organised, 141 jobseekers received life skills training and 174 individuals received commuting allowances to facilitate their employment.
