AMMAN — The Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) and the Algerian embassy in Amman on Tuesday discussed means to enhance bilateral relations, and future aspects to boost investment opportunities in promising economic sectors, and develop ties between the two countries’ business communities.
JBA President Hamdi Tabbaa and Algerian Ambassador Mohamed Sherif Kourta discussed means to intensify meetings between the private sectors in Jordan and Algeria and exchange commercial delegation to get acquainted with top investment opportunities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Tabbaa noted that there are several Jordanian investments in Algeria, mainly in the medicinal and pharmaceutical sectors whose exports to Algeria in 2020 stood at some $65.3 million.
He also pointed out that restructuring customs tariffs and lowering them will contribute to encouraging commercial exchange between Jordan and various countries, which will play a role in the Kingdom’s commercial openness.
Kourta highlighted the embassy’s endeavours to develop commercial and investment ties, referring to several agreements between the two countries that need to be activated.
He also said that there is an opportunity to develop cooperation in medical tourism, especially that the Kingdom has witnessed remarkable development in the sector recently.
The commercial exchange volume between Jordan and Algeria in 2020 stood at $218.8 million, where Jordanian exports to the North African Arab country amounted to $94 million.
Jordanian exports to Algeria were mainly focused in chemical products, aluminum, fertilisers, while Algerian exports to Jordan included mineral fuel and lubricants, rubber and non-organic chemicals, Petra added.
