JAF successfully thwart smuggling operation, seize narcotics, weapons, apprehend infiltrators

AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti underscored the imperative use of all potential, capabilities and resources within the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) to foil infiltration and smuggling attempts.

Huneiti made these remarks while following up on the quality operation against smugglers and infiltrators conducted by JAF at the eastern border on Monday. The operation resulted in the confiscation of substantial quantities of narcotics and weapons, along with the apprehension of smugglers who had infiltrated from Syria, according to a JAF statement. 

 The army chief also stressed that JAF is committed to employing full force against perpetrators to ensure the safety and stability of the Kingdom and monitor anyone intending to jeopardize national security. 

He also reiterated JAF’s unwavering determination to halt such illicit activities, address all border threats and pursue armed groups responsible for such actions. He also stressed that the army will thwart anyone seeking to compromise the Kingdom's national security.

Huneiti also commended the efforts of the Border Guards and their high morale, praising their professionalism in executing duties to safeguard the borders.

JAF also said that 12,858 palm-sized sheets of hashish, 4.7 million Captagon pills, 2.6 kilogrammes of crystal meth, automatic weapons, and missiles have been seized on Monday’s operation that lasted for around 14 hours.

JAF also shared photos revealing the identities of eight out of nine apprehended smugglers, along with the weapons and drugs seized.

A JAF official had revealed that the militants were repelled into Syria, noting that several Border Guards sustained minor to moderate injuries during the operation.
