AMMAN — Jordan on Saturday participated in the 68th regular session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.

Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Chairman Khaled Toukan stressed that Israel’s intransigence and disregard for international resolutions calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza have resulted in unprecedented suffering and a humanitarian catastrophe, urging for international solidarity to uphold international law and protect the Palestinian people.

Toukan also urged serious efforts to fulfil the Palestinians’ right to self-determination, achieve a two-state solution, and establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Toukan also highlighted key achievements of Jordan’s nuclear programme, including the Jordan Research and Training Reactor, which produces medical radioisotopes for medical and industrial applications, and the Jordan Uranium Project, currently undergoing preliminary economic feasibility studies and detailed engineering design for peaceful commercial uranium plant, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Jordanian delegation met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to discuss expanding cooperation between the JAEC and the IAEA in support of Jordan’s nuclear program. Grossi expressed the IAEA’s support for Jordan’s nuclear initiatives and commended the progress achieved, particularly with the Jordan reactor project.
